The Resident District Commissioner, Katakwi District has ordered the District Education bosses to transfer Apuuton Primary School Head Teacher within two days, or he will be arrested.

Rtd. Maj. Geoffrey Katamba gave the orders yesterday 11th July 2022 after a fact finding meeting by the district leadership at the school premises following the defilement of a Primary Five pupil by one of the school teachers.

Katamba accused Mr. Moses Ekunyu for being irresponsible in trying to hide and sabotaging the defilement case against his primary teacher, Mr. Okello Romanos who is accused of defiling a 14 year old P.5 pupil.

The RDC also said the defiler must be brought to book and the Head teacher too should not be allowed at school anymore.

Sam Emukoki, and his wife, parents to the victim and residents of Alukucok village in Akoboi Sub County were happy with the way the district authorities intervened into the matter but told the media that, let this be real if the leaders are to help them.

“When it clocks evening or night hours sharp, some of these girls start wondering how some teachers come wanting sex from them,” Emukoki said.

One teacher of the same school (names withheld) said in the meeting that, it’s true Okello Romanos the alleged defiler used to buy Bolingo and sweet things for the victim.

The D/ASP Mr. Kule Jeremiah, the OC CID for Katakwi tasked the school administration to produce the suspect who is on the run and said they have opened a general Inquiry File into the matter.  Kule asked all the employees of the school to go and record statements at Katakwi CPS in order to speed up investigations.

However, some parents this reporter interviewed expressed dissatisfaction with the decision to transfer the head teacher to another school arguing that it is like transferring a problem to another community.

“Transferring this head teacher means other communities will suffer because which school will they transfer him? Doesn’t the community there know of his acts? Four parents whom this website spoke to said.

Hon. Omolo Geoffrey, the lc5 for Katakwi said let the law take its course.

Omolo says he learnt of the matter while a way for office duties but got shocked of the incident.

The Inspector of Schools for Katakwi, Mr. Daniel Alileng said they have been seeking support from the district over similar cases but they were not responded to.

“Defilement cases are never discussed and let the culprit be brought to book, police can you do your part,” Alileng said.

The representative of the CAO, Cicolar Alupo encouraged teachers to work but said her office will look into the matter of transferring the Head teacher.

The secretary for education and community based services in Katakwi District Local Government, Hon. Among said defilement is criminal and police should investigate the case to the dot and with care.

“Teachers play a critical role in the child’s upbringing but only few ones with funny acts spoil others names, I really implore my comrades in the struggle (Teachers) to continue with their normal duties at schools,” Among said.

She asked parents and guardians to monitor and report any issue of defilement, school dropout and violence in their communities to the nearest leaders or police so that they will be handled.
