SOROTI CITY
There was fracas amidst voters in Soroti City East yesterday, 12th July, 2022 as some senior National Resistance Movement party members paraded voters, most of whom were women in a line and giving them money at Rhino Camp.
The team seen by our intelligence team and captured on camera in the evening hours of July 12th 2022 include Bob Owiny,, the Councilor representing Tubur in Soroti District council and Honorat Okello, the former Soroti Municipality speaker who was dishing out money.
The lead team are all members of NRM and campaign mobilizers for the NRM flag bearer, Herbert Edmund Ariko for Soroti City East bye- election scheduled for 28th July, 2022
Voters were seen struggling in a line while telling the team leaders to lock the gate so that other people who were not inside could not enter.
Bob Owiny was heard saying that “This is government money, allow people to enter inside,” he shouted over his voice to the Askari at the gate who was locking the gate.
Each member was being given 2000shs and there were over 200 people. This backs up our earlier story that NRM has begun early campaigns in Soroti despite the fact that E.C has not yet nominated any candidate for the by-election.
While issuing its road map, EC warned aspirants against any form of voter bribery, early campaigns, gifts and donations.
