Three districts from the eastern region are expected to benefit from the Shs 3.5 billion Lwakhakha catchment project which was launched yesterday, 24th July 2022.
This was revealed by Mazimo Twinomuhangi, the team leader Kyoga water management zone under the Ministry of Water and Environment while speaking to local leaders and stakeholders at Prim Hotel located in Tororo town yesterday.
According to Twinomuhangi, the three districts are Manafwa, Namisindwa and Tororo.
He adds that under this project they are going to carry out activities in sub-counties neighboring River Lwakhaka in the three districts like planting trees, filling gullies, putting fish ponds, constructing public toilets, and putting irrigation among others.
Twinomuhangi adds that they want to promote agriculture, improve the environment and prevent soil erosion.
John Musila, the chairman of Lwakhakha catchment projects and also MP for Bubulo East Constituency says that the Shs 3.5 billion was given to the government of Uganda by the World Bank as a grant.
He adds that the project is going to start soon because they have handed the works to the aid environment contractor which will last for two years.
Jackson Wakwaika, the LCV chairperson of Namisindwa district has urged locals from the three districts to embrace the projects since its development.
