AMURIA/KAPELEBYONG
The local district leaders of Amuria and Katakwi districts have blamed Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) for the bad state of the roads in the area leading to fatal accidents.
While condoling with the bereaved families of the 13 Mbale traders who perished in the Alomayin swamp motor accident early Monday morning, the LC5 for Kapelebyong district said for many years, they have asked Uganda national Road Authority (UNRA) to give the said road the attention it deserves but all in vain.
“As many have noted, the main road between Soroti and Amuria is very bad and as a result, the traffic has diverted to the recently worked road along Alakaituk.” Akorikin added.
“The road links Amuria, Kapelebyong to Abim District and yet it never gets the attention it deserves,” Akorikin added.
In the same vein, the Amuria district LCV Chairperson, Moses Emabu attributed the accident to poor road network in the district.
While addressing media yesterday 22nd, August 2022, Emabu explained that the traders who came from Mbale heading to Adipala weekly market in Kapelebeyong decided to use the road at Alomayin which was commissioned by the State Minister for Works Hon. Musa Ecweru though it’s not designed for big trucks as its narrow and small.
Emabu also explained that the Soroti-Amuria road would have been the best for trucks but due to its dire state, most people have opted for the new road which can’t handle the big traffic.
“We condole with the families that have lost and call upon government to work on the road network”, he added.
