A 40yr old woman and a resident of Kassambya, Watuba parish, Kikandwa sub county in Mityana district has been arrested for stealing a one day old baby from Mityana hospital.
Nakalanzi Prossy is said to have stolen the baby on 25th/10/2022 at around 400pm from Mityana hospital and police was immediately alerted.
It is alleged that the newborn baby was stolen from the mother Namutebi Aisha 20yr, 4 hours after delivery.
According to ASP Racheal Kawala, the Police PRO Wamala region, the suspect was tracked down by police task teams and later arrested in the home of Nanfuka Costa of Kyengeza village, Malangala Sub County in Mityana district.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the motive of the suspects was to please her husband who was asking her to bear him a child,” Kawala said in yesterday’s press release.
She said the suspect shall be charged with aggravated trafficking in children.
“We urge mothers not to entrust their children with strangers and also to try if possible to move with their attendants as they go for child delivery,” she said.
