The Azimio la Umoja Coalition Leader and veteran opposition kingpin, Raila Odinga has accused Kenya’s Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua of planning mayhem on protesters today, Monday 27th March, 2023.

Raila Odinga who has called for bi-weekly demonstrations effective this week, made the stinging allegations in a press statement released yesterday 26th March, 2023.

“It has come to our attention that Mr. Rigathi Gachagua is currently coordinating a major operation of mayhem against planned Azimio la Umoja protest rallies planned  to take place in Nairobi tomorrow (today),” the statement reads.

Raila says Gachagua has set an armory and command centers in two different locations: One is at a house next to the Bomas Kenya belonging to a former Cabinet Secretary and second on Hillcrest Drive belonging to a serving cabinet Secretary.

“The two houses are currently being stocked with all sorts of modern and crude weapons including guns, pangas and machetes for the said operation,” Raila’s statement reads in part.

He claims the weapons are being ferried in a vehicle camouflaged as St. Mary’s Ambulance. Others are KBQ 721J, KAZ 432F and KBM 771Z.

Raila also says youths are being ferried to Nairobi and other parts of Kenya specifically to target some leaders of Azimio such as; Hon. Babu Owini, Hon. Opio Wandayi, Hon. Edwin Sifuna and Hon. Jeremiah Kioni.

“When this planned mayhem comes to pass, Mr. Gachagua must be ready to take full responsibility for it,” Raila warns.

Interestingly, Gachagua is the acting President of Kenya on the wake of President William Ruto leaving the country on Sunday (yesterday 26th March, 2023) for a four-day foreign visit to Germany and Belgium for bilateral trade talks.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of police, Japhet Koome on Sunday banned the planned countrywide protests by the Azimio la Umoja Coalition.

The IG said no one will be allowed to hold demos this week. Koome threatened to arrest the big guns, including Raila if they attempt to hold protests.

It remains to be seen, how the DP will respond to the demos dubbed “mother of all protests” by the Opposition.
