KATAKWI
Katakwi district authorities have handed over an abattoir project that was under construction to the butcher association in the district.
The project was a World Bank funded project in partnership with the government of Uganda.
According to Ariko Onyait, the Katakwi District Veterinary Officer while speaking to our reporter on a telephone interview, the modern abattoir facility shall be managed by the Katakwi Butchers Association.
He said that the state of the art project was constructed by a Chinese Ugandan based construction company, Geo-Construction Company.
“We expect them to maintain it with care knowing it’s a facility that belongs to them,” he said.
The World Bank project has benefited four districts in Teso among them Amuria, Serere, and Bukedea.
The Chairperson Katakwi Butchers Association, Charles Ilukol told our reporter that they are ready to use the facility in an effective way to benefit not only Katakwi but also other districts like Kumi, Soroti among others.
“We are going to manage it with care so that it can last to help many of our new generation,” he said.
