SOROTI CITY

At least a total of over 40 patients are currently undergoing oxygen treatment at Soroti Treatment Centre.

This was revealed by the Soroti Regional Referral Hospital COVID-19 focal point person, Dr. John Wilson Etolu today.

Speaking to our reporter at Soroti Regional Treatment Centre, Etolu said the over 40 patients in oxygen need support yet the facility always runs out of oxygen.

He hinted that yesterday they were forced to send trucks to Moroto Regional Referral Hospital to get oxygen for patients.

Soroti is second to Kampala with the highest COVID-19 cases with 78 cases admitted at the COVID-19 treatment Centre and over 200 patients undergoing home based care.

He revealed that with the huge number of patients at the facility, the hospital is in need of support calling on well-wishers to help in supporting the Centre in order to enable them treat all patients.

He also hinted that with the hike in cases, the Soroti Treatment Centre has decided to open up another facility at Soroti School of Comprehensive Nursing and Midwifery in order to help decongest the facility.

He also revealed that, in the Teso Sub Region, the districts of Serere, Kumi and Ngora are the ones with high numbers of positive cases.

On a sad note, Dr. Etolu without revealing the number of people who have died due to the COVID-19 Pandemic while undergoing home based care said that they have registered such deaths in communities with bPatients under Home based care.

“Sadly we have lost some patients under home based care, we couldn’t bring them here because we thought they were doing well but most of them have died because of limited space at the facility,” Said Dr. Etolu.
