MBALE CITY

Mbale High Court has this morning, Tuesday 28th September 2021, ruled that Sironko Woman Member of Parliament was duly elected and thus dismissed the petition challenging her victory.

Florence Nambozo’s victory had been challenged by her competitor and NRM Flag bearer, Asha Nabulo on grounds of lacking the requisite academic qualifications and election malpractices.

However, Justice David Matovu ruled that Nambozo has the required academic qualifications and therefore the petition was baseless. He dismissed the petition with costs.

Justice Matovu said that petition side failed to bring enough evidence to prove that Nambozo forged academic papers.
Matovo added that the father of Nambozo had no other daughter that the petitioner claims owns the papers Nambozo used.

While speaking to the media, Nambozo said she has forgiven both Nabulo (her cousin) and Lumolo (her uncle) for tarnishing her name that she never went to school. Her forgiveness however did not include the court costs.

“On the issue of costs, they have to pay because I also incurred a lot of money in defending this case,” she said.

The judge depended on written submissions to make his ruling after the court audio recordings of Nambozo’s cross examination mysteriously went missing earlier during the court hearing.

However, Hasan Kamba the lawyer of Lumolo has disagreed with the ruling saying they are going to appeal.
