National Resistance Movement’s Andrew Muwonge has been declared the winner of the Kayunga LC 5 by-election by the Uganda Electoral Commission.
Muwonge was declared the winner by the Kayunga District Returning officer Jennifer Kyobutungi having obtained 31,830 votes. He was closely followed by the National Unity Platform (NUP)’s Harriet Nakweede Kafeero who garnered 31, 380 votes.
Nakeede has however protested the results saying she was cheated.
“I got 35,000 votes but to my surprise, the EC declared only 31,380 votes,” she said.
Her words were echoed by NUP Deputy Spokesperson, Waiswa Mufumbiro who said; “We won this election, we got 35,000 votes, what has happened here is a reflection of lack of transparency and democracy.”
Meanwhile the NUP coordinator, Greater Mukono, Betty Nambooze noted that their win has been robbed by the State. She said they contest the results in court.
