Arrested Bukedea LCV Chairman Remanded to Nakatunya Prison

The Local Council V Chairperson of Bukedea district who was arrested yesterday for allegedly being an accomplice in the murder of a one Francis Opolot has appeared before court and remanded to Nakatunya Government Prison in Soroti City.

 

Olemkan was remanded till 24th February, 2022 when he will reappear in court for mention of his case.

 

Olemkan Moses was arrested yesterday 2nd February 2022 on advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

 

Opolot Francis, a resident of Akonyuko village, Apaanga parish, Kachumbala Sub County in Bukedea district was murdered using a machete over land related issues on the 24th December, 2021.

 

Yesterday, police released a statement in which it confirmed Olemkan’s arrest.

 

“The arrest followed allegations by suspects in the murder of Opolot Francis that occurred on 24/12/2021, that the LC 5 is an accomplice in the Murder in question.” Ageca’s statement reads in part.

 

BACKGROUND POLICE STATEMENT ON THE MURDER

 

On Saturday the 25th day of December 2021 in Akunyuko village, Apaang parish, Kachumbala Sub County, Bukedea district, unknown person dressed in black jacket armed with a panga found one Mr. Opolot Francis a male adult 50yrs old Etesot seated in his compound and proceeded to cut Mr. Opolot on the back, neck and the jaw after which they ran away and a case has been registered vide Bukedea SD: ref. 35/25/12/2021.

 

The Uganda Police of the Territorial jurisdiction of Bukedea visited the scene under leadership of the DPC together with crime intelligence, detectives and other officers attached to CPS Bukedea.

 

Mr. Opolot consequently passed on the morning of this 26th day of December 2021 at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital where he had been rushed for medical attention.

 

We thus ask and request any individual with information to furnish the Uganda Police Force with the same that may lead to the apprehension of an individual or individuals connected with this crime, as inquiries continue into this Murder.

Consequently seven suspects were arrested including Michael Ojakol and Joseph Okwalinga who both died in police cells. Ojakol was reported by police to have committed suicide inside the police cells.

 

Local leaders including Olemkan demanded an independent autopsy of the bodies. The autopsy was done and the two suspects were found to have been tortured.
