SOROTI CITY
Soroti Regional Referral Hospital imaging department is struggling to operate effectively due to lack of functional X-ray machine and Computed tomography (CT) scan.
This was revealed by the Vice Chairperson National Resistance Movement Eastern Region, Flight Captain Mike Mukula during his working visits in Soroti City yesterday 21st February 2022 in what he terms bridging the gap and carrying the message of good will.
The facility that serves all the eleven Districts of Teso and neighboring districts refers patients to do x-ray scans outside in private clinics.
The private facilities charge between Shillings 25,000 and 50,000 for X-ray and ultra-sound scan services respectively. This follows the breakdown of the X-ray machine at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital for two years now.
Dr. Ben Watmon, the Director of the Hospital however reiterated on the concern reminding Mukula that the office of the Prime Minister had pledged an x-ray machine to the facility and there is need for a follow up.
Soroti regional referral hospital regarded as a center of excellence for its committed staff who recently performed complicated surgeries of Siamese twins doesn’t have a CT scan with the nearest being a private one in Mbale.
Mukula said there is a need to lobby the Government to ensure that all regional referral health facilities are availed with CT scan machines and functional x-rays.
