Oledo told the doctors that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni promised a lot for the medics during a meeting that they had with him and all that will be achieved if they change the way they do things.
“We can’t go to the President to demand our benefits yet we are having a bad record, getting bribes from the patients will turn against you one day,” he warned.
He also appealed to Doctors to show the interns how to work without encouraging them to be corrupt.
“We are going to have a standard ethical committee where doctors shall be put into disciplinary committee in case of misconduct and in case we fail, then we shall hand over to the responsible authorities,” he said.
He also advised the doctors to change for the sake of their future as it will help reduce on the number of maternal and infants’ deaths.
Oledo also explained his dissatisfaction with herbalists who are taking over the medical space by misleading the public.
“A doctor takes more than four years studying and getting knowledge then a herbalist comes out from nowhere saying that he or she can treat cancer and other chronic diseases, that’s fake, we are going to do something as it’s misleading the public,” he added.
