Nabumali High School Parents, Administration at War over Students’ Withheld UNEB Results

A group of Parents totalling to 25  have resolved to drag Nàbumali High School to courts of law for breaching an agreement between the two parties regarding results of 25 students withheld by UNEB.

Understanding that in the previous year 2021, twenty five(25) Senior Four(S4) students had their Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results withheld by Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) for copying in  computer practical paper.

This angered the parents to the victims who demanded a clear explanation by the school Board and Administration as to why their children had their results withheld by UNEB and as to who was responsible for the mess.

According to Mr. Livingstone Kuloba, a parent to one of the 25 students, all the 25 students had similar work presented to UNEB with common mistakes and similar punctuations which proved that there was connivance or conspiracy to cheat exams in the computer practical paper.

He further explains that they were told by the board that the teacher in charge Mr. Wandera Peter just assisted the students in printing the work.

However there are still questions as to why the work of the 25 students was exactly the same with common features on every script.

The board chose to harmonize with the parents by suspending the computer teacher who was responsible for the practicals and also offering to incur costs and let the 25 students whose exams were withheld study for free for the whole academic year as they repeat their UCE S4 exams this year.

According to highly placed sources, there were ‘Big Fish’ behind the copying of Exams and that the computer teacher was just used as a sacrifice and a scapegoat thereby emerging as a victim of circumstance.

However, with the change of the Board, the New board decided against the gentleman’s agreement the parents had with them insisting that the parents should pay half the fees and that the School takes care of the other half.

This move angered the parents who started seeing the school management as traitors and hypocritical who can’t keep their word.

Several engagements and meetings have been held with the parents demanding that the New board honours the Gentleman’s agreement the parents had with the old Board but the New Board has kept it’s position demanding the parents to pay half.

This has frustrated parents who have chosen to run to courts of law to seek justice and sue the school management. Some parents have also threatened to withdraw their children completely and NEVER to send any of their children to Nàbumali High School.

Mr. Kuloba Livingstone, one of the affected parents disclosed to us that they are in consultations with their lawyer on how to go about this Matter legally.

When we contacted the Chairman Board of Governors Nàbumali High School Mr. Charles Mungoma, he said that they acted according to the minutes generated by the previous board and not according to the minutes of the new board adding that they are just implementing what the old board had resolved.

He however referred us to the Headmaster Mr. Kayima Douglas who we contacted but he was tight lipped over the matter.

However highly reliable sources revealed that the Headteacher is at crossroads over the matter.
