National Drugs Authority has impounded drugs worth 104 million shillings and arrested over 30 people during an operation in eastern region.
While speaking to the media at Wash and Wills hotel this afternoon, 11th November 2022, Samuel Kyomukama head of enforcement said the operation was carried out in Bududa, Mbale city, Tororo, Manafwa, Busia, Pallisa, and Kapchorwa.
He revealed that the operation targeted pharmacies selling government drugs, those without licenses and with unqualified staff.
Kyomukama also says that the operation started on Monday and ended yesterday, Thursday adding that the suspects are in custody waiting to be produced in court while the impounded drugs are at their eastern region office located in Tororo.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson named some of the suspects as Enock Muhama from Nakaloke, Winnie Chebet from Kapchorwa, Lydia Masika from Bududa, Annet Kwakha, and Sophia Babirye.
He adds that those suspects were found selling government drugs, operating with expired or no license and not having qualifications.
Duncan Emego, the chairperson of drug shop operators in the Elgon region has expressed his happiness with the operation.
He urged people operating pharmacies but without maximum requirements of NDA to fulfill the requirements such that they cannot be arrested in the next operation.
