KATAKWI
The Minister of Local Government has directed Security to investigate the Katakwi Town Council leadership for unlawfully grabbing and distribute Government land amongst themselves.
Hon. Raphael Magezi gave the directive yesterday 13th November, 2022 at Katakwi Primary Hall where the Ngariam County MP, Hon. Peter Ogwang who doubles as the State Minister for Education and sports (SPORTS) was meeting opinion leaders, religious and elected leaders, Town council and District leadership among others to discuss matters of development in the Town Council.
Magyezi’s directive was prompted by Ogwang’s grilling of the Town Clerk, Joseph Okure to explain why councilors and other civil servants decided to allocate themselves plots that were Government wned.
The angry Local Government Minister said that, he read the post on social media that was showing how Katakwi Town council messed-up with the Government property prompting him to take much interest in the matter.
” Yesterday 12th of November 2022, I was in Katakwi to commission a 317million bulky cooperative project but later also followed the posts on social media where the Town clerk of Katakwi confessed that, he was under pressure by Hon. Councilors to be given Government plots, I’m handling this matter very soon,” Magyezi on phone.
“Who permitted them and is that how local government operates? This is comedy,” the Minister shouted.
Hon. Magezi said that whoever took government plot must return it that they face arrest saying, they have showed the public and government how hungry they are.
The Katakwi Town clerk, Mr. Joseph Okure said that, the Town Council had the remaining Eight (08) Residential plots which the Hon. Councilors mounted pressure that they should be given or distributed to them.
Reliable reports indicate that the distributed plots have been developed while some were sold off by hungry councilors.
The said plots are allocated in the Wards of; Western, Northern, and Central all in Katakwi Town Council.
Other issues discussed involved roads, health and water, electricity among others.
