MBALE CITY

The Bishop of Mbale Diocese has urged government to rehabilitate Mbale municipal stadium and rename it Masette Kuuya as a way of remembering the Obote II ex Minister.

John Wilson Nandaa made the call yesterday, 9th December, 2022 at Mbale Municipal Stadium located at Mbale city during a holy mass prayer for the fallen Kuuya’s body.

According to Nandaa, since Kuuya lobbied for the construction of this stadium in 1985 while he was a minister of rehabilitation during Obote II era, the facility has been neglected whereby all pavilions are worn out, and toilets are spoiled.

He added that it’s a shame to this current government for failing to repair the stadium yet it helps to promote the talents of young people.

Meanwhile, Kasimu Namugali, the Mayor of Mbale City revealed that the city council has plans of renaming the stadium as Masette Kuuya stadium after his burial as a way of remembering the wonderful job he played while was minister by lobbying for the stadium.

John Baptist Nambeshe, the Member of Parliament representing Manjiya County in Bududa district blamed NRM government for threatening to kill Kuuya if he came back into the country from exile.

He urged other political leaders in Bugisu region to take Kuuya as an example by using their key positions to lobby for things for the region such that they can be remembered after their death.

John Musila, MP for Bubulo East Constituency in Namisindwa district also urged government to take over the completion of Kuuya’s house at Khabulotala Sub County in Manafwa district.

He says that since Kuuya left the country in 1985, his storied home building is still incomplete arguing that it would be good if government completes it as a gift to him based on what he did to his country while minister.

However, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, Member of Parliament representing   Budadiri West Constituency in Sironko district pledged Shs50 million to rehabilitate all toilets in the Mbale Municipal stadium.

He urged other political leaders to emulate him such that Mbale stadium can look good as they wait for the government to intervene.

Kuuya will be buried today Saturday at his ancestral  home located at  Bumatoola I village, Bunangabo parish Khabutoola Sub County in Manafwa district.
