A trailer has caused the death of 9 people after one of its tyres bust making it lose control and thereby crossing its lane and ramming into 3 vehicles.
According to Faridah Nampiima, the Traffic Police Spokesperson, this tragic accident happened yesterday, 28th December 2022, at around 7.30PM at Kaganda towards Kyojja swamp in Kinoni along Masaka – Mbarara highway in Lwengo district.
Nampiima says the fatal accident has so far claimed 9 lives, leaving one critically injured.
“Twelve injured victims have been rushed to Masaka hospital for first aid. One is in critical condition. Our Fire and Rescue services personnel are at the scene to remove bodies as some remain stuck,” Nampiima says.
Nampiima says a motor vehicle Reg No RAF 168S/RL 1426 Mercedes Benz Actros trailer from Masaka heading to Mbarara side had a rear tyre bust, lost control and crossed over to the lane of on-coming vehicles.
The trailer then rammed into vehicles: Reg No UBJ 084N Toyota Hiace and UAP 126A.
