The Busia District LCV Chairperson has petitioned the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister, Robbinah Nabbanja over delayed appointment of staff recently interviewed by the District Service Commission.
In a letter dated 17th March, 2023, Mr. Stephen Wasike Mugeni is requesting Nabbanja to use her good office to persuade the Ministry of Public Service to allow the district service commission issue appointment letters to the members who were recently recruited to occupy vacant offices within the district.
Earlier this month, Busia district Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Mrs. Angela Akurut told local leaders during a stakeholders’ meeting that that the District Service Commission had played its role of recruiting and conducting interviews to 25 individuals selected for the vacancies of Procurement Officer, Inspectors of Schools, Teachers, and Nurses.
She however added that after the process, they received communication from the Ministry of Public Service asking them to halt the process due to lack of funds to cater for the salaries of new recruits. She added that the district can only issue appointment letters after getting clearance from the ministry.
Mrs. Akurut was responding to queries raised by district councilors who wanted to know why the recruits have not filled their respective offices after the process was done.
Mugeni raised the same issue on Saturday 11/03/2023, during the 37th Liberations Day belated celebrations that were held at Bukwekwe Primary School in Majanji-Lumino Town Council.
He informed the Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robbinah Nabbanja about the same matter and asked her to intervene because the district is currently lagging behind in service delivery due to the presence of unfilled offices.
In response, the Prime Minister promised to prevail on all issues in a meeting scheduled between her office and leaders from Busia on 24th/3/2023.
