Busia District Local Government on 4/4/2023 launched the disbursement of Parish Development Model funds to individual beneficiaries.
The launch was held at Masafu prison grounds in Masafu Town Council led by the Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Michael Kibwika.
According to Kibwika, the district has received over shs 1.9b with at least 27864 households having been enrolled for the program through 1684 registered enterprises.
He said that at least 1964 individuals have so far benefited in the project and expects more households to be enrolled in the near future.
He has further appealed to the beneficiaries to genuinely utilize the funds through their enterprises as the only avenue of achieving the government’s goal of transforming her citizens into a money economy.
Beatrice Nafula, the first beneficiary of the PDM funds confirmed to our reporter that she received the money yesterday, 5th April, 2023 on her account. She says that the funds are timely and expects to expand her poultry business from the current 20 birds to at least 200 of them because she is going to use the funds to purchase enough drugs and feeds which have always been a great pull back to her business.
On his part, Nasser Mukiibi, the District Chief Administrative Officer- CAO said that for the purpose of the launch, only one beneficiary was able to receive the PDM money. He said other beneficiaries will receive their money after the District Parish Implementation Committee members get trained through the I.T process of transferring money from a Parish Sacco to beneficiary accounts.
