The Minister of State for Planning, in the Ministry of Finance, Amos Lugoloobi, has been denied bail by the Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo.
Court has set 20th April, 2023 as date of hearing for his bail application at midday.
The Minister was arrested on Friday last week over issues of diversion of iron sheets meant for Karamoja.
Earlier at the Courtroom, Lugoloobi, pleaded not guilty to two counts related to dealing with suspect property contrary to Section 21 (a) of the Anti-Corruption Act as amended.
He becomes the 2nd minister to be charged over diverting iron sheets meant for the people of Karamoja after Mary Goretti Kitutu who is now out on bail.
The court’s decision is a setback to the Ministers legal team that presented a collection of medications obtained from Agakhan University Hospital as supporting evidence during the bail application. It’s said that the accused is a patient with a medical history of Hypertension, asthma, and Diabetes.
The Minister also appeared to court wearing a canula on his left wrist.
The team had also argued that, “the accused is a Member of Parliament. He doesn’t only have responsibilities to his family but to the country as a whole. If he’s denied bail, his family, constituency and ministry will be affected.”
