Silver Wangalwa, 20 years of age and a peasant from Namabasa at Northern City Division in Mbale City is rotting away at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital after having been shot by a police officer last week.

Speaking to this website today, 13th July, 2023, Irene Wandela, an Aunt to the victim says that her nephew was shot on his bums by a police officer known as Moses Ojoko attached to Namatala police station last week while doing his agriculture work at Doho cell, Namatala ward, Industrial city division in Mbale city.

She adds that the police officer shot Wangalwa after accusing him of trespassing on his land where he was digging at the time of the shooting.

Wandela also says that after shooting the victim, a police patrol vehicle carried him to general clinic at Mbale town for treatment but the situation worsened and was transferred to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.

On arrival at Mbale Regional Referral, they were advised to have the patient operated in order to remove the bullet but the family members have failed to raise the Shs10 million required yet police authorities have also failed to support them.

When contacted, Denis Pahani, the Police commander of Industrial city division said that these days, an errant police officer is charged as an individual, therefore in this case, it is Ojoko to take full liability.

He revealed that Ojoko was arrested on the same day after committing the crime but was released on police bond later as DPP still advises them before sanctioning the file to court.

Pahani say that so far as police, they have no money to help the victim.
