National Unity Platform (NUP) is planning to hold a massive demonstration called ‘Go-Kungu’, police has revealed.
This is contained in a press statement issued by Police Spokesperson, SCP Fred Enanga dated 19th September, 2023.
According to Enanga, police has credible intel that Bobi Wine’s NUP is planning to hold several demonstrations in the coming days including the massive ‘Go-Kungu slated for 15th January, 2024.
These demonstrations according to Enanga are in response to the suspension of NUP mobilisation activities, following several breaches of guidelines.
“As police, we anticipate protest events that are planned for days to come and an alleged mass demonstration dubbed “Go-Kungu” on the 15.01.2024,” Enanga says.
He says that police is prepared and has a multi-layered strategy that includes, counter –response, reaction and arrests.
“We will not rest until those who plan to use violence and intimidation for impunity and lawlessness are brought to full justice,” Enanga warns.
Enanga also reiterated government’s decision to suspend NUP Mobilization activities saying the second phase of NUP’s activities can only proceed if NUP leadership complies with the police guidelines and law abiding.
“Although NUP has vowed to defiantly continue with its second phase of the mobilisation tour, they must be aware that under the Police Act, Sec 32(1) the police have a duty to police public meetings in a proportionate manner,” Enanga says.
