The State Minister for SPORTS, Hon. Peter Ogwang has announced that Aki Bua Stadium in Lira City will be ready to host the AFCON 2027 games.
Ogwang made this revelation on Thursday, 29th February, 2024 after a Memorandum of Understanding with the Joint Venture of Khator Sports and SAMCO to construct the stadium in less than 20 months was signed at State House, Entebbe.
“Plans to construct Aki Bua Stadium in Lira City have been finalised after we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Joint Venture of Khator Sports and SAMCO to construct the stadium in less than 20 months,” Ogwang says.
He also revealed that the Contractor will finance and build the Stadium through a pre-finance basis.
“This sports infrastructure is critical project in our preparations to host the 2027 AFCON and therefore, it will be fast-tracked for its timely completion,” the Minister says.
According to Ogwang, the Contractor was identified by the Minister for Education and Sports, Mama Janet Museveni.
Akii-Bua Stadium is designated as one of the venues for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) games.
