Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) has spoken out on a video circulating on Social Media with one of its senior officers announcing a recruitment exercise.
The Director Defence Public Information Officer, Brig. General Felix Kulaiyigye in a statement issued today, 18th April, 2024, says the video showing Brig. General Matthew Gureme announcing a UPDF recruitment exercise was in 2022.

He adds that at the time, Afande Gureme was the Chief of Training and Recruitment but has since been transferred to Arusha, Tanzania as the Defence Liaison Officer at the East African Community Secretariat.
“We wish to clarify that the video is not current and the UPDF has not made any announcement anywhere in this regard,” says Kulayigye.
Kulayigye says the UPDF will provide clear information in both print and online/electronic media when the next recruitment is due.
He warns that the clique circulating the video could be conmen who want to fleece the unsuspecting community members.
