TORORO: Distressed Police Officer Shoots Himself Dead In Suicide Act

A police officer attached to Iyolwa Police Post, Iyolwa Sub County in Tororo District has died after he shot himself through the head at Iyolwa police post.

 

Police Constable, Ekisa Emmanuel aged 27 years old and an Etesot took his life on Sunday, 28th April, 2024/04/19 at around 1:00PM and a suicide note was recovered from one of his pockets.

 

According to IP Moses Mugwe, the Ag Police Spokesperson Bukedi South Region, the deceased was at Iyolwa police post on duty armed with rifle No. UG-POL. 5631005914-23881 with 30 rounds of live ammunition and was seated at the counter with the O.C Post and other civilians who had come to report.

 

“He later left and entered into his room when it was drizzling and shortly a gunshot was heard from his room which is door No.3 from the Charge Office,” says Mugwe.

 

Mugwe says upon hearing the gunshot, the O.C Post came outside with other people and smelt gunpowder coming from the deceased’s room.

 

They went to his door which was not locked and upon opening, they saw the deceased lying on his bed on spinal position in a pool of blood on the mattress with his gun on the chest pointing towards his neck and the safety catch open.

 

The case file was opened vide Iyolwa Police Post SD REF: 04/28/04/2024 and CPS Tororo CRB 374/2024.

 

The scene was visited by a team from CPS Tororo which included SOCO, homicide detectives and other uniformed officers commanded by ASP Kaigwa Elly, the Acting DPC Tororo.

 

A declaration letter written by the deceased dated 18/04/2024 addressing the father and his family that he has decided to die because he is living a stressful life was recovered.
