President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, also Commander in Chief (CiC) of the Armed Forces has named former Director of Counter Terrorism at Uganda Police Force, Major General Abbas Byakagaba, as the new Inspector General of Police.
Byakagaba’s appointment was also confirmed by Faruk Kirunda, Deputy Press Secretary to the President in a late evening post on Friday, 17th May, 2024.
“I confirm that H.E. the President and Commander in Chief of the UPDF has today appointed Mr. Abbas Byakagaba as the new Inspector General of Police replacing IGP Martin Okoth Ochola. Other changes have been effected in the Uganda Police Force,” Kirunda psoted on his X handle.
Byakagaba replaces Martin Okoth-Ochola who retired in April, 2024 and will be deputised by Assistant Inspector General of Police James Ochaya, who replaces Maj Gen Geoffrey Katsigazi.
