Seven Major Police Changes As President Museveni Appoints New IGP

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, also Commander in Chief (CiC) of the Armed Forces has named former Director of Counter Terrorism at Uganda Police Force, Abbas Byakagaba, as the new Inspector General of Police.

 

Byakagaba replaces Martin Okoth-Ochola who retired in April, 2024 and will be deputised by Assistant Inspector General of Police James Ochaya, who replaces Maj Gen Geoffrey Katsigazi. Katsigazi has been recalled back to UPDF.

 

Kaali Ali Fahdi has been transferred to the Directorate of Fire Prevention and Rescue Services as the director while John Nuwagira is the new FFU commander.

 

Hadijah Namutebi has been moved from the Chief Political Commissariat to the Directorate of Welfare with Ubaldo Bamunoba replacing her.

 

SCP Frank Mwesigwa has been appointed Director of Operations. He has been the acting director of Counter Terrorism. Meanwhile SCP Moses Kaafero is the New Director Human Resource Department
