BREAKING! Barcelona Fires Head Coach, Name Replacement

By Our Reporter

Xavier Hernández Creus popularly known as Xavi has today, 24th May, 2024 been sacked by Barcelona, with tensions arising between him and club president Joan Laporta.

Former Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick expected to take over as head coach next season.

According to Fabrizio Romanio, Xavi has been relieved of his duties and will leave the Camp Nou after Sunday’s final match of the season against Sevilla.

Meanwhile, The Guardian says Hansi Flick is set to be confirmed as the club’s new head coach next week.

Former Bayern Munich boss Flick has been out of work since leaving his role as Germany manager in September.

He has also been linked with replacing Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea in recent weeks.

Xavi is said to have been informed of the decision on Friday after president Joan Laporta visited the club’s training ground.

It comes after a dramatic few months for the former Spain midfielder.

The 44-year-old had announced in January that he would be leaving at the end of the season following a defeat to Villarreal.

His side sat 10 points off La Liga leaders Real Madrid in third place after the loss.

However, he went on to U-turn on the decision last month as the club announced he would remain in charge until the summer of 2025.

It now appears Xavi is on his way out, though, having returned to Barcelona in November 2021.

He has since won a league title and the Spanish Super Cup during his tenure.

Barca will also end this season in second place behind their El Clasico rivals Real.

Xavi also spent 24 years at the club as a player, making 767 appearances and winning 25 major trophies.
