The chief magistrates court Tororo has convicted and sentenced Moses Ejangu to three years imprisonment over two charges of possession of Uganda National examination Board (UNEB) materials and unlawful sharing of information on social media.

Dennis Juko (head teacher) of St. Mary’s Junior School, Namirembe, Kapeka, in Nakaseke District and his director of studies Moses Ejangu were arrested last week for allegedly masquerading as UNEB examiners and are also accused of disseminating false information.

The duo was arraigned before Tororo Chief Magistrate Doreen Ajuna and charged under Section 25(1) of the Uganda National Examinations Board Act on Tuesday, 15th October, 2024.

According to police, their arrests followed a complaint filed by Moses Olema, a staff member from Busitema University in Tororo, who alleged that the two attempted to deceive him by claiming involvement in the official exam-setting process particularly that of primary seven.

Upon their arrest, Juko and Ejangu confessed to the crime, attributing their actions to ignorance and pleading for forgiveness.

Before sentencing Ejangu today, the state prosecutor Lydia Odit asked for a deterrent sentence in order to curtail this act that affects human resource development in the country.

After pleading guilty, the chief magistrate sentenced Ejangu to a three years jail term for both offences and his co-accused Dennis Juko who later pleaded not guilty awaits hearing of his case by the same court.
