BULAMBULI
Inzu Yamasaba has urged government to expedite the process of relocating people who were affected by landslides in five sub counties of Buluganya, Sisi, Simu among others at Bulambuli to safer places.
This call was made by Vincent Woboya, the Minister for Disaster Preparedness at Inzu Yamasaba and former Member of Parliament representing Budadiri East constituency in Sironko district on Wednesday, 4th December, 2024.
Woboya was leading a delegation of Inzu Yamasaba leaders in a tour of various Internally Displaced Camps which have been occupied by people who were relocated from disaster prone areas in Bulambuli after last week’s landslide which killed dozens.
Woboya went to assess the situation people living in the different camps at Bulambuli are going through since they were put there by the government last week.
According to Woboya, last week when Prime Minister Robina Nabanja visited Buluganya Sub County where a landslide buried people, she told victims that the in a few days government was going to either relocate them permanently to the Bunambutye government relocation area or give cash for them to settle in safer areas.
Woboya expressed surprise saying up to now people are still overcrowded in the IDP camps which may result into rape, defilement, and incest among other problems since people are mixed and overcrowded.
He says that in his findings, he found people lacking clean water, insufficient food supply, overcrowding in all camps saying as Inzu yamasaba, they are going to make a report and give it to the government and other well-wishers for support.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on 3rd December, 2024 ordered the Ministry of Finance to expedite the process of releasing 50 billion shillings to help in relocating people living in disaster risk areas in Bulambuli.
According to the President, that money will be given to people living in disaster risk areas at Bulambuli to get other land of their choice to settle and part of the money will be used in buying more land at Bunambutye settlement area to settle disaster victims from Bugisu region.
According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, the number of bodies removed from mud so far are 30.
