Secretary-Office of the President Hajji Yunis Kakande has asked Resident District/City Commissioners (RDCs) and District Internal Security Officers (DISOs) to block any protests aimed at showing discontent against the government.

Kakande while opening a capacity building workshop for RDCs and DISOs from Bugisu and Sebei Sub-regions at Wash and Wills Hotel in Mbale City said that people who are not satisfied with some issues under the government control should desist from engaging in protests.

According to Kakande, there are avenues of reaching out to the government to address issues that people are dissatisfied with as opposed to engaging in protests. He said that in a bid to maintain peace and security in the country, RDCs and DISOs should not tolerate such protests in their areas of jurisdiction.

He also emphasized the need for RDCs to actualize presidential directives on environmental protection and the parish development model by ensuring that wetlands are not degraded and people receive funds for the parish development model as per the guidelines.

Asumin Nasike, the Mbale Resident City Commissioner expressed commitment to fight environmental degradation by stopping all developments in wetlands and helping in the continued fight against corruption.

Naome Nakawala, the Mbale Deputy Resident District Commissioner says that the capacity building workshop will help to boost their monitoring and supervisory role in the education sector especially on issues of extra fees charges in government aided schools where children are sent home because of failing to clear.
