The ministry of health has revealed plans to recruit a total of 156 health extension workers across Butaleja district, which will greatly help in the fight against preventable diseases affecting young children and their mothers.

James Ocakacon, a Senior medical officer, in the Ministry of health revealed this on Tuesday 10th December,2024 in a meeting held at Butaleja district health boardroom with district councillors on health committee, medical officers, community development officer, and other officials.

Ocakacon, said that the recruits must have “O” level certificates that he says will manage to collect the necessary data, speak the official language and oversee the work of the Village Health Team(VHTs), whose required qualifications apparently have gaps.

He mentioned that those to be recruited will be trained to work for a period of 6 months and will work with the Village Heath Teams to help the public fight preventable diseases.

The Resident District Commissioner for Butaleja district, Eva Kwesiga directed the technocrats to support the ministry’s program since it’s one of the President’s dream for the country’s development Agenda 2040.

Kwesiga warned the applicants against presenting forged academic documents. She also faulted some health workers who often abscond from duties without clear reasons.

Aida Nehole, the Butaleja district secretary for Gender and social services, expressed gratitude for the gesture.
