Namisindwa district council has tasked the Chief Administrative Officer to recover over 7 million shillings which was allegedly misappropriated by Irene Watera, the head teacher of Musiye primary school.

The council gave its demands on Tuesday, 17th December, 2024 while debating the district public accounts committee report recommendations during the district regional Council meeting held at Bukiabi Sub County.

According to PAC report read by the speaker, Dorothy Walukawu Nebokhe, Watera failed to account for over 7 million shillings which was given to Matuwa primary school located at Bupoto sub county while head teacher there last year before being transferred to Musiye primary school.

Nebokhe says that the money was a grant donated to Matuwa primary school by Arlington academy for running different school activities.

She says that PAC investigated this report which was tabled at the floor of Council and confirmed that the money was misused.

Emma Bwayo, councilor representing Male youths says that they want the CAO to deduct Watera’s salary and also be given a serious warning.

He says that this will act as an example to other civil servants in the district who tend to misuse tax payers money.

However, Leonard Kitafuja, the Namisindwa district chief administrative officer in his response called for calm among councilors.

He says he can’t wake up from nowhere to start the salary deduction until he carries out his independent investigation to avoid future problems.

He says that many district local governments have been asked to compensate workers after making decisions without actual investigation.
