MBALE CITY
Mbale City Police has issued a statement that contradicts what Mbale City Council authorities say about the alleged involvement of Police officers in the theft of its Shs400M generator and 32 digital screen machines last week.
Speaking to this Publication today, Friday, 3rd January, 2025, James Kutosi, the Mbale City Public Relations Officer said two officers attached to Mbale central police station were arrested and detained at Mbale central police station on orders of Mbale city clerk, Ambrose Ochen but were later released on bond over the thefts.
Kutosi says that Mbale city arrested the two officers to help with police investigations since they were on duty the time when the generator and screens were stolen.
However, SP Rogers Taitika, the police spokesperson Elgon region when contacted on phone, declined to give names of the two officers. He disregarded Kutosi’s statement saying no police officer was arrested or given police bond.
The generator has been aiding in powering Mbale city with electricity when power is off and the two screens have been used in monitoring local revenue collection [street parking fee].
Khariate Kakayi, the Mbale City Deputy Mayor says that this is going to cost the tax payer and urged police to stop confusing the public but help the city recover the items.
