The Rwanda backed M23 Forces have demanded the withdrawal of South African troops that are fighting alongside the Congolese army, FARDC.

M23 Communique

In a Communique dated Monday, 3rd February, 2025, the M23 calling itself ‘Alliance Fleuve Congo’ says SAMIDRC, a South African military contingent, ‘to withdraw its Forces from the DRC, as we have repeatedly stated that their mission is no longer justified.”

In the same communique signed off by Lawrence Kanyuka, M23 says they have declared a ceasefire effective today, 4th February, 2025 allegedly due to a humanitarian crisis created by FARDC.

M23 are also decrying the use of gunships by FARDC based at Kavumu Airport where bombs are loaded and used ‘to kill our compatriots in liberated areas.”

Interestingly, M23 has turned around saying they have no intention of capturing additional territories including Bukavu but reiterated their resolve to defend the areas they have captured.
