SIRONKO

The police in Sironko have launched an investigation into two district engineers, Andrew Wasukira (Senior District Civil Engineer and Acting District Engineer) and Charles Nasusi, Superintendent of Works who were interdicted in January, 2025.

The interdiction was effected by Nelson Kirunda, the Sironko Chief Administrative Officer over allegations of poor road maintenance in the district.

Before their interdiction, a team of leaders, including MPs Nathan Nandala Mafabi and Isaiah Sasaga Wanzira, Livingston Giluli, the LCV chairperson of Sironko district, and district councilors conducted a four-day road monitoring exercise.

They discovered that despite allocating 1 billion shillings for road maintenance in the 2023/24 financial year, most roads had not been maintained, and the engineers had falsely reported that they had worked on them.

The leaders resolved that the CAO should interdict the two engineers and investigate them.

According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, the police have since received the files and are conducting an independent investigation.

Taitika confirmed to this publication today, Friday, 21st February, 2025 that they are investigating the matter and will submit a report to the CAO to determine the next course of action.
