Manafwa District National Resistance Movement (NRM) party leaders on Wednesday, 9th April, 2025 unanimously endorsed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as their sole candidate for the 2026 general election.

This endorsement was made during the party’s annual district conference at the district headquarters.

The motion to endorse President Museveni was read by Eddy Wanambwa, Manafwa District Councilor representing the elderly, and seconded by Sarah Kituyi Bukene, the district party Publicity Secretary.

Charles Walimbwa Peke, Manafwa District NRM Party Chairperson, cited President Museveni’s transformative leadership, which has improved the country’s economy and social welfare since Uganda’s independence.

Walimbwa highlighted several achievements under the NRM government, including Good roads, Poverty reduction through government programs, Access to clean water, Free education at secondary and primary levels among others.

He says the party aims to increase its vote share in the district to above 90% in the 2026 election, up from 75% in the 2021 general election.

Peter Welikhe Christopher, Member of Parliament for Bubulo West constituency, emphasized that NRM leaders have been equipped with knowledge on how to search for votes, ensuring a united front in support of President Museveni.

Other leaders in attendance, including Kosea Kigayi Kimono, LC5 Chairperson of Manafwa District, echoed the sentiment that the population has economically benefited from the NRM regime, making it unnecessary for people to deny President Museveni votes in the next election.

This endorsement is consistent with similar moves in other regions, such as Bugisu and Teso, where leaders have also expressed their support for President Museveni as the sole NRM candidate for the 2026 general election.
