The Ministry of Works and Transport has confirmed the re-opening of Karuma-Ayago Bridges along the Kampala-Gulu Highway to all Traffic.
In a statement dated Saturday, 12th April, 2025, the Ministry of Works and Transport says the bridges will be opened to traffic on Monday, 14th April, 2025.
The re-opening follows successful completion of installation and curing of expansion joints.
The bridges were closed to all traffic on 10th March, 2025.
Expansion joints are critical components that allow the bridge structures to expand and contract with temperature changes and traffic loads, thereby maintaining its structural integrity and extending its lifespan.
The bridges will be open although there are some remaining works such as installation of guardrails, street lighting, river training works, cat’s eye installation and painting of structural steel plate girders under the bridge.
