As the 2026 election approaches, Toroma County NRM Cadres have urged the NRM government to act in the best interests of the people of Toroma by establishing Toroma District as a new administrative unit to assist them get services more quickly.

The Toroma administrative unit cadres have vowed that if the President certifies the Toroma district administrative unit prior to the election, the area residents will vote 99 percent for the NRM government.

In 2017, the then council submitted a request for the creation and curving of Toroma District from Katakwi District Local Government, as well as requests for 11 sub counties such as Amusia, Akoboi, Getom, Okulonyo, Angodingod, Okore, and Guyaguya, while Olupe, Kamenu, Ominya, Odoot were pending and town councils which included Usuk, Magoro, and Toroma all succeeded; three counties of Ngariam, Magoro, and of which only Ngariam was operational.

Other town boards established include Aketa, Ngariam, Odoot, Olilim, Angodingod, Apapai, Ocorimongin, Orungo, and Olupe, all of which are operational. The council also resolved to establish 63 villages, but these were not operationalized.

Charles Okorom, an NRM mobilizer in Toroma County, believes that the President should serve the interests of the Toroma people by curving Toroma District as a means of rewarding the electorates.

He claims that if the President does not grant Toroma district, it will continue to create mistrust between the president, Katakwi residents, and Toroma in particular.

Michael Irimaut, LC3 Chairperson of Kapujan Sub County, believes it is critical for the President to implement the creation of Toroma District in order to provide services closer to the people.

He claims that the government has provided a wide range of services to people through programs such as PDM, Emyooga, and UWEF, with the only thing left to do is create Districts for service delivery.

Raphael Magyezi, Minister of Local Government, recently remarked during a visit to Katakwi that if the budget is approved by parliament, the new administrative units will undoubtedly be built because the ministry is committed to bringing services closer to the people.
