A tragic incident occurred on Sunday, 8th June, 2025 in Manafwa district, where a 25-year-old man, Charles Kuyiya, allegedly threw himself in front of a moving vehicle, resulting in his death.
The incident took place on the Manafwa-Lwakhakha Road in Namuweke.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson says that according to eyewitnesses, Kuyiya is a resident of Butta Village, Bukaru Sub County in Bulambuli district.
He says Kuyiya was standing by the roadside when he saw the vehicle, a white Toyota Ipsum registration UAP 157L, approaching, as the vehicle drew closer, he suddenly threw himself in front of it, and the tyres ran over him, causing fatal injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, Jeremiah Wepukhulu, a 43-year-old technician from Mbale district, was driving towards Lwakhakha when the incident occurred.
Taitika says the body of the deceased is currently at Mbale City Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination. The vehicle involved has been impounded, and police investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind Charles’s actions.
The authorities are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and provide information that may help shed light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
