The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has withdrawn charges of abusing the Speaker of the 11th Parliament of Uganda, Anita Annet Among against former Rubaga Division Resident Deputy City Commissioner, Herbert Anderson Burora.
The presiding Chief Magistrate consequently set Burora free of the charges and ordered the refund of the bail fee he had paid after the presentation of the prosecution on Wednesday, 23rd July, 2025.
Burora was arrested in July 2024 after he allegedly used his X (formerly Twitter) handle, to post defamatory content between March and June 2024.
The prosecution claimed these posts labeled Speaker Among as a “torturer,” “murderer,” “kidnapper,” and “corrupt official,” and were intended to ridicule, degrade, and promote hostility against her.
Burora recently won the NRM primaries held on July 17, 2025, securing the party’s flag for the Nakawa West parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
He secured 3,075 votes (51%) in the NRM primaries, setting up a showdown with incumbent MP and NUP spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi.
Burora Speaks Out
AFTER A YEAR AS A VICTIM OF CONSCIENCE, DPP HAS WITHDRAWN ALL THE 6 CASES AGAINST ME
“In a room where people unanimously maintain a conspiracy of silence, one word of truth sounds like a pistol shot,”
I’ve had a sickening 1year that could have left me under the rubble. But some people are like seeds, they are buried to germinate. In our business, you need people to stay afloat. I want to thank everyone without mentioning names that contributed without measuring their contribution. We’ve got much battles to win, we shall continue to pursue justice without shedding blood.
We shall continue to fight in a manner that is deserving but also ensure fellow countrymen and women get the services they need.
We now have a bigger task ahead to bring home the Constituency. Let’s focus on this win too.
