Mustafwa Wabudeya, a former teacher at Nkoma Secondary School in Mbale City, is seeking Shs50 million in compensation from the school’s head teacher, Abubakr Kawanguzi.
This comes after the Mbale Magistrate’s Court dismissed a case of cyber harassment (defamation) that Kwanguzi had filed against Wabudeya in April, 2025.
Wabudeya was arrested and detained at Mbale Central Police Station in April over allegations of posting false information about Kawanguzi on social media and a WhatsApp group, which allegedly tarnished his name and that of the school.
On 8th July, 2025, the court presided over by Magistrate Grade 1, Morris Oburu Ezra, dismissed the case due to lack of sufficient evidence.
Wabudeya claims that Kawanguzi or his lawyer never appeared in court, and the 9-day window to appeal the ruling has passed.
Wabudeya is now demanding Shs50 million from the Head teacher as compensation for allegedly tarnishing his name, wasting his time, and detaining him at the police cell without a valid case. He warns that failure to comply may result in further action.
Attempts to get a comment from the Head teacher were unsuccessful, as he put his phone on busy mode and refused to respond to WhatsApp messages.
