Tororo municipality stakeholders have received the technical design report of the 10.65KM of roads going to be tarmacked under the new programme of Uganda Cities and Municipalities Infrastructure Development (UCMID)
The design which was presented on Wednesday, 15th October, 2025 was undertaken by Trio Consultants Ltd which is also the consultant firm for the project of both roads and a master drainage system going to be constructed.
The consultant made designs for more than 14 roads including Rock Crescent 0.6KM, Juba road 1.9KM, Mukudo Crescent 1.21KM, Nile road 0.32KM, Tongue Avenue 1.9KM, Janan Luwum road 0.36KM, Commercial Street 0.17KM, and Nakawala road 1.77km.
Meanwhile, some of the roads that the municipality needs to acquire right of away include Hyena road, school road, Nakawala road and Juba road. These are roads where residents have encroached on the Road reserves.
During the meeting held at the Municipal Council Chambers, Eng. Charles Ndungu, the Assistant Commissioner in urban development at the Ministry Of Lands, Housing and Urban Development asked the people of Tororo municipality to give the required support for the success of this project.
Ndungu noted that these roads have been designed to last for more than 20 years and the consultant team has already concluded the engineering designs, social impact assessments, the costing of the roads and tender documentation, one of the key processes leading to the actual constructions.
And some of the works already done include topographical survey, material and geo-technical investigations, and traffic assessment.
On the side of the municipality, the meeting was attended by key technical officers, the municipal councilors, members of the executive and municipal Development Forum members. The team unanimously agreed to accord the project necessary support.
The Municipal Speaker, Clement Ochai asked the consultant to design strong roads that can cater for the big numbers of trailers that usually flood Tororo town. He warned that without considering this, the intended roads will be destroyed in the shortest time.
The Tororo Municipality Deputy Town Clerk, Okoth Kitong said that this is a wonderful achievement that the people of Tororo municipality must be proud of because it’s going to give the town a face lift.
He noted that the municipality is currently working on critical staffing to ensure that the project flows smoothly.
The councilors who attended the meeting pledged to talk to the residents who have built on the road reserves to pave way for the construction of the roads and the drainage system to cause economic value to their communities.
