Seven Aspirants in Katakwi district have failed to be nominated to run for the position of Member of Parliament for both District Woman and constituency level.
The Katakwi District Electoral Commission successfully nominated 24 candidates for the 2026 general election.
According to Stephen Makubuya, District Returning Officer for Katakwi District, those who were not nominated failed to provide the required documents, others submitted incomplete nomination forms despite paying the nomination fee, and others did not show up after booking the nomination time.
While the other candidate did present one person to nominate her, instead of two as required by section 28 (I) of the parliamentary election act cap 177.
According to him, five applicants did not show up, two failed to meet the requirements, and several lacked supporters to nominate them.
Those who missed were Cecilia Anyakoit Independent Woman Member of Parliament, Frances Clare Apolot FDC, Paul Malinga Toroma County, and Charles Hammer Odeng Ngariam County Independent. Violet Akurut Adome, Moses Akol Ecaboi NUP Usuk County, and Jude Amodoi independent Usuk.
Apolot, also a relative to Vice president Rtd Maj Jessica Rose Alupo, who missed to be nominated having failed to present a person to nominate her pleaded with the electoral commission to have leniency on her to replace her nominees to allow her nominate.
Stephen Alemukori, aspirant for Ngariam County, claims he was challenged to fund Ugx 3 million for nomination since his piggery project could only allow him to raise Ugx 2,700,000, and a shortfall of Ugx 300,000 cost him his chance at nomination.
Paul Malinga, an independent candidate for Toroma County, stated that his nomination was incomplete since he did not fill it out in triplicate despite paying the nomination money.
However, 24 candidates were nominated in three Katakwi constituencies, including two women members of parliament, with Rtd Maj Jessica Rose Alupo NRM and Angella Anuken Independent being the only successful nominees.
In Ngariam County, there are seven candidates, including Daniel Mulalu, the independent, State Minister for Sports, Peter Ogwang National Resistance Movement, Augustine Otuko Independent, Andrew Joseph Omiat UPC Candidate, Michael Ochailap Akabwai National Unity Platform NUP, John Baptist Eidit Independent, and Apuda Ignatius of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
In Usuk County, five candidates were successfully nominated: Richard Ongorok of the National Resistance Movement, Charles Okideny of the Independent Party, Epel Alex of the Forum for Democratic Change, Bosco Okiror of the Independent Party, and Simon Peter Ogulo of the Democratic Party (DP).
In Toroma constituency, ten candidates were nominated: Andrew Joseph Koluo independent, Solomon Ossiya Alemu National Resistance Movement, Walter Elakas independent, Allan Aporu independent, Benjamin Akiso National Platform Unity NUP, Paul Ikwap Forum for Democratic Change FDC, Robert Ekongot former LCV on independent ticket, Julius Eupet independent candidate, and Okello Stephen independent.
The national electoral commission nomination process that took place on Wednesday 22nd October and Thursday 23rd October 2025 went on successfully and peacefully.
The Electoral commission Katakwi however advised successful candidates to give campaign programs that the electoral commission might follow to avoid any clashes.
