A landslide has struck three villages in Namisindwa district due to heavy rains that have been pounding the Bugisu region for the rest of last week burying crops but causing no loss of life.
The incident occurred in Mutongo, Buwalukhuyi, and Sikusi villages, Namabya Sub-county in Namisindwa district on the evening of Sunday, 9th November, 2025.
Namabya LC3 chairperson, James Nakhaim Brazil reported that crops such as cassava, bananas, and coffee were destroyed with no house buried adding that people from about 20 homes have left their homes due to cracks and continuous rains.
He warned of potential future risks, citing cracks in the area like neighboring sub counties of Namisindwa Town Council and Bupoto and urged government to intervene.
Residents like Sarah Mukite and Peter Welikhe are seeking government assistance, with Welikhe stating that he has yet to receive compensation promised after a previous landslide in March, 2025.
They say that in future they might be hit by hunger since all their crops have been buried.
