Police in Iganga on Sunday 9th November arrested 2 suspects for masquerading as UPDF officers and being in possession of toy pistols.

The suspects have been identified as Mugumira Derick 30, truck driver and resident of Bugomba village in Luuka district, and Walujo Wycliffe 24, shop keeper and resident of Kasokoso zone, Central Division in Iganga Municipality.

Busoga East Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Kasadha Michael said that in the month of October 2025, Mugumira approached one of the aspirants for Iganga Municipality Member of Parliamentary seat, masquerading as a UPDF officer at the rank of Captain, and that he resides at the Senior Command and Staff College, Kimaka in Jinja.

“The suspect promised the aspirant that he has a team that would help her secure victory on condition that they are facilitated and asked for Shs3 million as the initial fund to facilitate the operation.” Said ASP Kasadha.

The aspirant was suspicious and reported the matter to police, and investigations were initiated.

Hell broke loose on Sunday evening when Mugumira approached Walujo and they went to pick up the toy pistols. Together they proceeded to Ntinda Valley Guest House where they expected to meet the candidate, to have the initial payment made.

Upon arrival, the security operatives who were deployed on mission arrested them and by press time, they had been detained at Iganga CPS.

Kasadha says upon completion of investigations, they will be arraigned to answer appropriate criminal charges. Police urges all candidates to work closely with police and to report any suspicious individuals to avoid falling victims to criminal activities.
