Two former employees of UMEME Ltd, a company that had been managing electricity distribution in Uganda before UEDCL have been arrested over theft of electricity equipment.
The duo identified as Kamoga Godfrey and Kasaga Geoffrey were arrested on Friday, 14th November, 2025 in a joint operation in Bombo, Luwero district.
The operation, conducted at approximately 7:30 AM, resulted in the recovery of stolen electricity cables and materials.
The suspects, residents of Bajjo Kisingiri and Namaliga West villages, led officers to stores in Nkokonjeru and Bajjo, where the stolen items were found.
Recovered items include two rolls of bare conductors, five rolls of three-phase ABC wires, single-phase ABC cables, pliers, guy grips, and other electrical materials.
According to ASP S. Twiine Amazima, PRO Savannah, the operation is ongoing, with efforts to arrest additional suspects, including Medi and Ismail, and to identify other storage locations.
He says the suspects and recovered exhibits have been taken to CID headquarters for further investigation adding that the operation aims to curb electrical vandalism in the district.
