Pupils in Tajar Primary School in Kamutur Sub County in Bukedea District have been forced out of school due to waterlogging.

In a survey conducted on Monday, 17th, Nov 2025, the school was found abandoned and left as a breeding ground for insects and grazing zone for cattle.

By midday, no single teacher was found at the school.

Mr. Rojas Nabulangu, Tajar area councilor says ever since teachers resumed classes, no teacher has reported to the school.

“This school is no longer operating and it has been left for rearing cattle, and yet it’s a government school,”, said Nabulangu.

Nabulangu also added that when trees are waterlogged, pupils lack space for learning.

“We have only two dilapidated blocks which the school abandoned years back and now pupils learn under trees”, said Nabulangu.

Mr. Jackson Ojekede, Kamutur Sub County Chairperson when asked for a comment, told this publication that the cause of waterlogging is the works of Dott Service Company.

“This school has been safe but when the channels from Acomai Irrigation Scheme were created, the water levels rise causing water to pour into the school premises,” said Ojekede.

Ojekede also added that, they have raised these concerns severally with Dott service but no response has been realized yet.

However, Stephen Okurut, DEO Bukedea said the district has put in plan to construct the school in the financial year 2026/27.

“Tajar is one of the schools in plan for the financial year 2026/27 and I hope it will be the long lasting solution for the people of Tajar”, said Okurut.

As parliament candidates are vying for votes, David Beecham Okwere, the NRM party flag bearer who visited Tajar on campaign trail pledged to construct water channel as a remedy of channeling water outside the school.
