BUSIA
Tension gripped Ndaiga trading centre in Busitema sub-county, Busia district, after an angry mob lynched a suspected goat thief in the early hours of Saturday night.
The deceased, whose identity remains unknown, was allegedly caught red-handed with a stolen white goat belonging to a resident, Opio.
Eyewitnesses say the man confessed before his death that he had been sent by his boss, identified only as Aisha, and brought to Ndaiga by a woman named Sandra, a local resident who reportedly fled the scene with serious injuries.
According to witnesses, the suspect is believed to hail from Naluwerere in Bugiri district.
His body was later taken by police to Busia mortuary for postmortem examination.
Residents expressed growing concern over the surge in livestock theft across Tororo and neighbouring districts, particularly during the festive season.
Community members are now urging authorities to step up security measures to curb the escalating crime wave.
By press time, police had not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
